Recent Letter to the Port re: temporary facilities April 12, 2010 Michael J. Galvin Port of Los Angeles Real Estate Division PO Box 151 San Pedro Ca 90733 Dear Mr. Galvin: Thank you for your letter dated February 24, 2010 in which you state that the Port is not in a position to construct or purchase temporary facilities for BucYC's use. As a part of our ongoing commitment to keep our waterside presence for the benefit of our members and the boating public, we would like to request that we be granted permission to locate a temporary building in the completed phase I parking lot, before our current building is demolished. This temporary building would be provided and maintained by the BucYC. The planned parking lot is substantially larger by several factors than the existing parking space and there should be an excess of parking during phase II. The BucYC temporary facility would be a State of California Office of the State Architect approved temporary building that meets current seismic and life safety requirements for public schools. The appearance would be modified to be compatible with the architectural features contained in the building elevations presented to us in our December 8, 2009 meeting, which your staff represented to us as being presumably acceptable to the planning and zoning authorities which have jurisdiction over the project. The BucYC has been in its current premises adjacent to the water since 1955, and continuously since that time we have provided valuable, affordable, services to the boating public. Key to our 55-year history has been our location adjacent to the water and the attendant boat slips where many of our members have their boats. If you have questions or require additional information, please don't hesitate to contact us at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your willingness to work with us to resolve this matter. Sincerely, Jakki Andrews Commodore, BucYC (909-732-2030 buccaneeryachtja@aol.com) John McNaughton Vice Commodore, BucYC (310-831-9486 mogger@pacbell.net) cc: Jessica Rivie, Chris Grossi |
